Mauricio Pochettino is keen to raid Manchester United for his former Southampton prodigy Luke Shaw, according to The Sun.
What’s the word?
After a turbulent few years at Manchester United, accompanied by injury problems and poor form, Luke Shaw has emerged fighting at the early stages of the 2018-19 season with some impressive performances for the Red Devils – earning himself a return to the England squad as a result.
The 23-year-old has proved his worth to United and the club are desperate for him to sign a new contract to avoid losing the former Southampton talent on a free transfer but Shaw is delaying a decision on his future.
According to The Sun, his former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino is waiting in the wings as he is keen to bring Shaw to North London and would jump at the chance to secure his services on a free – although the current suggestion is that Shaw will eventually agree a new deal with United.
Worth a move?
Whether Pochettino should move for Shaw relies heavily on a few things, as he is not the solid-gold prospect he was once deemed to be during the World Cup in Brazil four years ago – which means Spurs must be careful.

Firstly, Shaw will have to show that his current run of form is not merely a purple patch and his injury problems are behind him – with the full-back currently on the sidelines recovering after being knocked-out during England’s UEFA Nations League defeat to Spain.
Secondly, and perhaps the most crucial part, Spurs should only make a move if Shaw does not sign a new deal and becomes available for free as Manchester United would look for a return on the £30m investment they paid for his services – and it is doubtful that Shaw is still worth that price-tag.
Therefore, with the current situation, the chances of Spurs securing a deal for Shaw look rather slim.
