Former West Ham United striker Dean Ashton has advised Tottenham Hotspur to accept £40m for Eric Dier.
The 23-year-old has been part of the Spurs fold since 2014 when he joined the club from Sporting Lisbon.
He predominantly plays as a defensive midfielder, but at times last season he dropped into the back line.
The England international’s performances were scrutinised by Tottenham fans, and some reacted negatively, but it is believed that his displays were good enough to attract Manchester United.
According to The Guardian, the Red Devils recently tabled a bid close to £40m, but the North London outfit rebuffed their rivals’ advances.
The publication claims that United have now had three offers turned down after they were unsuccessful with bids of £25m and £30m.
It seems as though Tottenham are digging their heels in, and despite losing first-team player Kyle Walker to Manchester City recently, Ashton thinks that Spurs should take the money for Dier and run.
When asked on talkSPORT if he would accept £40m for the player, Ashton said:
“I would do, yeah. I think that’s unbelievable money for a holding midfielder. I know he is versatile and he has done very well for Spurs, but he doesn’t get in their best XI.”
